Christingles were originally part of a German/Moravian tradition, and were used as part of a Christmas Children's festival
the word Christingle means 'Christ Light'
a Christingle is made up of>>>>>
an orange > this represents the world
a candle > which represents Jesus Christ, the Light of the World
a foil star > to remind us of the star that led the wise men to the baby Jesus
a red ribbon > this is wrapped around the orange and symbolises the blood of Christ which He shed on the cross to save us all
fruits and sweets > which represent God's creation, seasons and produce, over which Jesus Christ, the King of Kings, rules
at a Christingle service, each person, especially the children, receive a lit Christingle whilst we sing songs and carols proclaiming Christ's glory
the candles shine in the darkness to proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord and the Light of the World
often, at breadsall church, the late session use drama and dance to tell the Christmas story to all, adults and children alike
our Christingle services are always held on Christmas Eve at 4pm and 6pm
please join us this year, all are welcome :0)
